Dream Beach House Uses Blue and Vetrazzo Surfaces In All The Right Places

Posted by Steven Schrenk on Apr 27, 2018 1:57:16 PM

Nestled in between the beach and the sound is a picturesque barrier island in North Carolina aptly named Figure Eight Island. This coastal southern paradise is an ocean lover’s dream and a creative inspiration, thanks to its vibrant blue waters that sparkle in the sun, nearly white sands and pops of lush green vegetation scattered around the island. In fact, the natural beauty of the colorful seascape was exactly what inspired the designer Lindsey Cheek of Gathered, a full-service interior design firm and shop in Wilmington, North Carolina, when she was called on to design one of the beachfront homes.

At first glance, you’d never be able to guess that this spacious, bright and airy kitchen was once a set of small and cramped rooms. Closed off, constricting and divided by partition walls, the four medium to small spaces were in desperate need of an update for both style and function.

From beachside bungalows to celebrity kitchens and more, we spotted Vetrazzo in all its many colors and forms from coast to coast. It turns out, homeowners love the look as much as they love the craftsmanship and heart behind this eco-friendly material. This California Beach House Has All The Patterns

Posted by Steven Schrenk on Jun 3, 2016 9:30:00 AM

Out on California’s Central Coast in Avila Beach, there’s a beach getaway with a design that’s stunning both for what it incorporates and what it omits. When designer Stephanie Rothbauer envisioned the total home renovation, which started off as just a bathroom (don’t they all), she turned to her surroundings for inspiration.

And in San Luis Obispo County that means foggy days and soft color neutrals of sand and shells and rugged browns of weathered wooden piers. More sunbleached driftwood than twinkling turquoise. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.) The designer used it all to create a luxury, sustainable retreat with recycled glass kitchen countertops reflecting the subtle sparkle of the Pacific.

“I wanted a coastal feel, not screaming beach,” Rothbauer said “I chose tones natural to the local environment.”

Her interior which incorporates Vetrazzo’s Martini Flint recycled glass countertops in the kitchen, three bathrooms and a fireplace hearth, is all about mixing materials: concrete flooring, plaster and wood walls, wood veneer doors, recycled glass tiles and even porcelain tile on the stair risers, all in a sandy palette.
